Home Sweet Home....for now :-)

While Mike was home on R&R this past June, we took a day trip down to Jacksonville, North Carolina in order to meet with a counselor and put an application in for base housing. The neighborhood that we liked the most had a 4 - 6 month wait list and is actually on New River Air Station which backs up to Camp Lejeune. It is a little smaller than Lejeune, but it has it's own gate, commissary, fitness center, and Officer's Club. The officer houses on New River are gorgeous and have all been built within the last two years! Since Mike wasn't going to be back from deployment for at least six months from the time we applied, we thought we were golden! Unfortunately, between June and now we have been pushed back on the wait list once or twice and are still waiting for a house. Currently, we're #2 on the list and praying that someone will move out of officer housing, so we can get into our first official home together as a married couple!

Until then, we're living in a small one room extended stay close to Lejeune. Our room is a little cramped to say the least. We have a stove top but no oven, half of our dry goods are stored in one of the big plastic storage containers from Target, and the refrigerator is so small and so packed with food that it is impossible to open it without something falling out. Thank goodness we're newly weds and can't get enough of each other because we've been separated for the last ten months, otherwise this place would get real old real quick!

Our front door and economy size refrigerator.

Our itty bitty kitchen and dining room table/kitchen island/desk/overflow kitchen counter top.

 Our living room/work out space/closet/bedroom.

 And finally, our tiny bathroom.
(Note: About 2/3 of my stuff is crammed under the sink)

Since the place is soooo small, Mike and I pretty much live in bed. We eat, sleep, read, watch TV, do paper work, and of course watch movies on the computer all in bed. We've gotten good at cutting up a full plate of food and or drinking while balancing the plate on our lap. For example, allow me to introduce Exhibit A:

Exhibit A

In all honesty, I really can't complain. I'm am happier than ever to finally have my husband home and to be living together as a REAL married couple. As long as we're together, all is right with the world.
(Cue sappy, riding off into the sunset, happily ever after music)

Kirby, you crack me up!! Even though I saw your hotel room while in NC, I still laughed all you perfectly described in your post! I guess the only thing missing would be if you had the dogs with you. Haha! Can you imagine??

No...as much as I miss the puppies, I can't imagine! Between my exercise ball and all Mike's field equipment Lucie wouldn't even have room to lie down, much less play squirrel with dad. And if you ask Lucie, a life without being able to play squirrel is no life at all!
